Revved — Child Safety Standards
Published by Revved (Pty) Ltd, developer of the Revved application
Effective date: 28 August 2026
Version 1.0
Publicly available at: https://joinrevved.co.za/child-safety
1. Our Commitment
Revved has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).
Revved (Pty) Ltd operates Revved, a community platform for car and motorcycle enthusiasts in South Africa. We prohibit any content, conduct, or use of our platform that sexualises, endangers, exploits, or abuses a child. We act on every report we receive, we remove offending content and accounts, and we report confirmed child sexual abuse material to the authorities.
Revved is offered in the Republic of South Africa. These Standards apply to everyone who uses Revved and form part of our Terms and Conditions and Community Guidelines.
2. Definitions
Child — any person under the age of 18. This is the definition used in section 28(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, section 1 of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005, and section 1 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE) — any conduct that sexually exploits, abuses, or endangers a child. This includes grooming, sextortion, trafficking a child for sexual purposes, sexualisation of a child, solicitation of a child, and the creation, possession, solicitation, or distribution of child sexual abuse material.
Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) — any visual depiction, including photographs, videos, drawings, and computer-generated or AI-generated imagery, involving a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct, or depicting a child in a manner that is sexual in nature.
3. Revved Is an Adults-Only Platform
Revved is available only to persons aged 18 or older.
We require age confirmation at registration
We do not knowingly permit any person under 18 to hold an account
Where we become aware that an account holder is under 18, we close the account and delete the associated personal information
Our app store age ratings reflect that Revved is not intended for or directed at children
This does not reduce our obligations. Content depicting or endangering children can appear on an adults-only platform, and we treat that risk as real.
4. What Is Prohibited
The following are strictly prohibited on Revved and result in immediate permanent removal:
Creating, uploading, sharing, requesting, or linking to child sexual abuse material in any form, including drawn, animated, or AI-generated imagery
Any sexualised depiction or description of a child, including where a real child’s image is edited or manipulated
Grooming — building a relationship with a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation or abuse
Sextortion — threatening to release intimate imagery of a child
Soliciting, arranging, or facilitating sexual contact with a child
Trafficking a child, or advertising a child for sexual purposes
Using Revved features, including RevTag scanning, direct messaging, or event listings, to identify, contact, locate, or meet a child for any sexual or exploitative purpose
Sharing off-platform links, contact details, or resources for the purpose of accessing or distributing CSAM
5. How We Prevent and Detect CSAE
Age restriction. Revved is restricted to adults, with age confirmation at registration.
Reporting. Every piece of content and every profile can be reported from within the App, and child safety reports are prioritised.
Review. Reported content is reviewed by our team, and we act on reports as described in section 7.
Blocking. Any member can block another member, preventing contact, content visibility, and RevTag scanning.
Investigation. Where we identify a pattern of concerning behaviour, we investigate it whether or not it has been reported.
We expect to strengthen these measures, including the use of automated detection tools, as the platform grows. Where we make a change that materially affects how we detect or handle this content, we will update these Standards.
6. How to Report
If a child is in immediate danger, contact the South African Police Service on 10111, or your local emergency services, before contacting us.
You can report CSAE to us in the following ways:
In the App — every post, comment, photograph, profile, direct message, vehicle, and event listing has a report option. Select the child safety category.
By email — write to our Child Safety Point of Contact at support@joinrevved.co.za, with “Child safety” in the subject line so it is prioritised
Through our website — using the reporting form at https://joinrevved.co.za/report
Reports are confidential. We do not disclose the identity of a reporter to the person reported. You may report anonymously, though contact details help us follow up if we need more information.
Do not download, save, copy, or forward suspected CSAM, including to us. Report the location of the content and we will retrieve and preserve it lawfully. Possession and distribution are criminal offences in South Africa even where the intention is to report.
7. What Happens When We Receive a Report
Step | Action |
|---|---|
1. Triage | Child safety reports are prioritised above all other report categories and reviewed immediately, ahead of our standard 24-hour service level |
2. Removal | Content assessed as CSAE is removed from public view immediately |
3. Account action | The account is permanently banned, together with any linked accounts we are able to identify |
4. Preservation | Evidence is preserved securely, with access restricted, in a form suitable for handover to law enforcement, and is not deleted on the ordinary retention cycle |
5. Reporting | Confirmed CSAM is reported to the authorities listed in section 8 |
6. Cooperation | We respond to lawful requests from law enforcement and provide the information we are permitted and required to provide |
8. Reporting to Authorities
On obtaining actual knowledge of CSAM or of a sexual offence against a child, we report to:
The South African Police Service — as required by section 54(1) of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007, which makes it a criminal offence to fail to report knowledge of a sexual offence against a child, and section 110 of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005
The Film and Publication Board, in terms of the Films and Publications Act 65 of 1996
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), via the CyberTipline, for international referral and hash-sharing, so that the material is detected and removed elsewhere
We do not require a court order to make these reports, and we make them whether or not the reporter asks us to.
9. Legal Framework
We comply with applicable child safety laws, including:
Legislation | Relevance |
|---|---|
Films and Publications Act 65 of 1996 (as amended by Act 11 of 2019) | Criminalises the creation, possession, production, and distribution of child pornography, and imposes obligations on online platforms |
Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007 | Criminalises sexual offences against children, including grooming and exposure to pornography; section 54 imposes a mandatory duty to report |
Children’s Act 38 of 2005 | Defines a child, and imposes reporting duties in respect of abuse and deliberate neglect |
Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020 | Criminalises the disclosure of non-consensual intimate images and related offences |
Protection from Harassment Act 17 of 2011 | Provides protection against stalking and harassment, including electronic harassment |
Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 | Sections 34 and 35 restrict the processing of a child’s personal information |
Revved is offered in South Africa and South African law governs our obligations. We report confirmed child sexual abuse material to the South African Police Service and the Film and Publication Board as our primary channels, and additionally to NCMEC, whose CyberTipline supports international hash-sharing and referral so that material is removed from other platforms.
10. Child Safety Point of Contact
We have designated a Child Safety Point of Contact responsible for overseeing compliance with these Standards, receiving reports and enquiries, and receiving notifications from Google, Apple, law enforcement, and child protection organisations.
